The Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appealed to the state government and management of Tao FM Okene (Community-based radio station) to quickly resolve the disagreement that led to the shutting down of the radio station by the Kogi Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) over alleged tax infractions.
A statement by the chairman of the council, Comrade Adeiza Momohjimoh and Secretary, Sheidu Ademu said that the continued closure of the station will deny the people useful information especially in this electioneering period.
The statement said that the workers and the listening public are already counting their loses since the radio was shut down.It described the pioneer General Manager of the station, Mrs Halimat Salihu as a thorough bred professional who has brought the radio station to an enviable position, stressing that the disagreement should not be allowed to dwarf her achievements.
The statement further called on well-meaning Kogites especially people of Kogi Central Senatorial District to wade into the crises to ensure amicable resolution that will bring the radio back on air.
